Default News about the migration away from Flash Player

This thread contains the information that the developers have provided to us since before the start of the the game migration to the HTML5/WebGL platform due to the end of flash player and also contains the updates and new releases as we get those and more features added back to Farm Town.


Flash Player is no longer needed for Farm Town.
Please disable the FarmTown Flash Enabler extension in your browser if you added and enabled it.


If you can not load the game at all to see what is on you farms like crops, trees etc. and work your farms yourself without frequently crashing please go to the 1st post on page 1 of the HTML5/WebGL version of the Game: Not loading or frequent crashes thread, read the information there and try what is listed: http://r1.slashkey.com/forum/showthread.php?t=650270

If you can load the game and see what is on your farms like crops trees etc. you are playing a restricted version of the game which means that not everything is available to use or do yet. Any questions about what is currently available please go to the 1st post on page 1 of the of the Game Migration Update thread. All the latest updates for Farm Town are listed in that thread and there is a Quick List at the bottom to help you know what is currently available in Farm Town. Game Migration Updates: Latest update released on January 7th, 12:30PM
  • Bugfix: Farms showing completely 'zoomed in' for some users from non-English speaking countries
  • Bugfix: Facility names not showing in Quest screens when mouse over the facility icon
  • Bugfix: Farm Selector from Home Icon in markets disappearing too quickly
  • Bugfix: Incorrect female clothes in avatar editor when creating new accounts
  • Enabled warning when loading farms with duplicated Farm Cash facilities
  • Added avatar/facebook pic to the 'Set as Super Neighbour' screen



December 27th, 3:50PM


We just released a workaround to enable support for WebGL 1.0 again, please test and report if you are still having issues loading the game with only WebGL 1.0 enabled.

All players that disabled Hardware Acceleration in the Chrome browser, please enable it again, as this can cause unexpected problems with the game.


In this update we released new content like farm expansions, facilities and a new Turbo Bakery and also migrated old features to the new version of the game.

The section below shows the details on the new content released:

1. 27 New Holiday decorations (released a few weeks ago): 2 as gift, 20 at the top of the Holidays category at the store and 5 at the bottom.

2. Next 52x52 farm expansions for Farms 31 through 44: They cost 50 FarmCash or 60000000000 Coins.

3. Turbo Bakery (FC): This is a new facility that produces 3 times more baked products than the current Bakery.

4. Other improvements:
  • Added option to the 'Edit Farm Name' screen to customize the 'freeze animals' behavior per farm, this will allow to freeze animals only on farms that contains many animals while still enjoying live animated animals on other farms
  • Added 'Private' red text in chat when sending private chat messages to others
  • The Multiplanter tool now remember the category and scroll position every time the store is opened
  • A farmer banned for communication in public places will have its avatar label text always set to 'Temporarily Banned'

  • Bugfix: Removed many cases of the 'WebGL Disabled' error by upgrading to a new Unity version
  • Bugfix: When hired and leaving the employers farm to go to another location that is not another employers farm, if you haven't collected your employee bonus before leaving the farm the warning message about losing the bonus was not showing up
  • Bugfix: Sometimes incorrect tooltip info text is shown when mouse over the status buttons to the right of the screen in the marketplaces
  • When loading the game with Seasonal decorations hidden, red squares were showing in their positions by default

  • Enabled animations for the Mobile Sprinklers, Watering Can and Manure Spreader tools
  • Enabled avatar images in several areas in the game
  • Enabled Mayor image in popups
  • Enabled the 'Mute In This Session' option in the avatar menu so you can temporarily mute a farmer in the marketplace
  • Enabled old style quests for novice players at levels below 50
  • When working together with a hired employee on a farm, the white text messages alerting you of the work your employee is doing will disappear when you mouse over them, this way they will not interfere with your own work

November 13th, 6:50PM

In this update we released new content like farm expansions, facilities and a new Turbo Fish Farming Plant and also migrated old features to the new version of the game.

The section below shows the details on the new content released:

1. 12 New Thanksgiving decorations (released last week): 5 as gift, 5 at the top of the Thanksgiving category at the store and 2 at the bottom.

2. Next 52x52 farm expansions for Farms 16 through 30: They cost 50 FarmCash or 60000000000 Coins.

3. Turbo Fish Farming Plant (FC): This is a new facility that produces 3 times More Shrimp and Molluscs than the current Fish Farming Plant.

Note: This facility cost 84 Farm Cash, 3 times as much as the regular Fish Farming Plant, because it produces 3 times as much as well.

4. Other minor improvements:

- Added a new 'Rain' item, be patient in order to highlight it, just move your mouse slowly over the rain for a while until it turns yellow. This can become difficult or impossible if there are too many items behind the Rain.
- In most screens like Store and Storage the mouse wheel will scroll the content much faster, one mouse wheel notch will scroll the content one full page
- When returning to your own farms using the farm selector linked to the home icon, the highlighted farm will be the one linked to the 'LAST' button in the farm selector
- Avatars in public places like markets will have a maximum label text length of 32 characters, this will make the markets less cluttered

The section below shows the details about old features migrated to the new version and all bug fixes:
  • Enabled the Flower Freezer/Unfreezer tool
  • Enabled animation for all country flags. All flags are located in the Flags category in the store.
  • Enabled the special farm selector when you use the home button to return to your farms
  • In the Show Work Info screen, you can now click on each job type in the top-left color legend to update the screen content according to that job type only
  • Enabled the 'Report User' and 'Report Abuse' icons on top of the CHAT button to make it easier to report users for offensive behavior
  • Quest Icon at the very top should now behave like flash, changing image when quests are available and refreshing the numbers correctly

  • Bugfix: When meeting other players in a farm with animals their avatars moved randomly throughout the farm along with the animals
  • Bugfix: Add proper notification when trying to dispatch a ship without enough fuel available
  • Bugfix: The filter options in the Facility Manager and the Farmer Hiring screen were stretched vertically when playing in full screen
  • Bugfix: Moved the Highlight/Extent selector icons to the right edge of the screen when playing in non full screen
  • Bugfix: Multi-Planter not working when choosing trees or flowers from the giftbox
  • Bugfix: When moving several seasonal items from item storage to farm the storage screen scroll position is not remembered
  • Bugfix: Incorrect background color for the speaker icon at the top right actions bar
  • Bugfix: Display issues with some of the dropdown options in the Storage and Facility Manager Filter screens
  • Bugfix: After enabling visibility for plants like Crops, Flowers or Trees in your preferences sometimes the space around your avatar was empty
  • Bugfix: Sometimes Ships remained visible on farm even when they were disabled in the game preference options

  • Bugfix: Sometimes, crop names not showing up when using the extended combine tools
  • Bugfix: Improved visibility and highlighting capability for old items: Rain Cloud, Rainbow, Big Rainbow and Halloween Spider Webs. Still missing the fix for the Rain item.
  • Bugfix: Fixed the link to the Facebook FarmCash purchase receipt in the Account tab -> Farmcash Activity Log section

  • Improvements and bug fixes for new players flow


Bugfix: 'Show Work Info' button in 'Show Names' screen when visiting others should be visible only for Super Neighbours
Bugfix: When using an item from the gift box and put it in the farm, when opening gift box again, the scroll position was not remembered
Bugfix: When sorting by Done or Utilization in the facility manager, clicking the Start All / Store All button of individual facilities caused those buttons to disappear from the next facility under the mouse


Note: The Super Facility feature is already completed, since the Trading Warehouse is taking longer than expected, we are planning to release the Online Trading and Super Facilities in the next 1 - 2 weeks, and then the Trading Warehouse after that.




Post Release Updates - August 2nd, 10:00PM

Enabled sending farm cash gifts to neighbours and buddies for the remaining players. We also migrated a few minor features and released a few bugfixes, we will post full details in 1-2 days when we release the new facilities.






Post Release Updates - July 21st, 1:15PM
  • Enabled sending farm cash gifts to neighbours and buddies. We are rolling out this feature in 2 phases, it's currently enabled for half of all players, the next half will be enabled on August 1st.
  • Enabled 'Report Abuse' avatar menu option to report offensive language or farm designs
  • Enabled 'Show Facility Info' in the Show Names screen
  • Enabled tooltip info when mouse over the All button in a facility screen

  • Bugfix: NCC 'Thanks' display issues for non-neighbours
  • Bugfix: Missing NCC 'Thanks'
  • Bugfix: Display issues for ships in Seaport that were returning home
  • Bugfix: Incorrect container preparation time and percentages
  • Bugfix: When working neighbour facilities, the toolbox and the train icon inside showed a 99 red counter
  • Bugfix: Sorting by Belts and Dans in the store not working
  • Bugfix: Incorrect amount of coins earned when selling giftable flowers from the farm or item storage


Post Release Updates - July 7th, 8:00PM
These are fixes released in the past week:
  • Bugfix: Some ships missing from Seaport
  • Bugfix: Error when using the Load All button to load all ships
  • Bugfix: 'New Farmcash earn or bought' notification not showing after loading the game

  • Bugfix: When placing items in a farm quickly some of them never got to the farm or disappeared moments later
  • Bugfix: Fixed all holiday animals
  • Bugfix: After unloading a train, storage was increased by double the products, it corrected on reload
  • Bugfix: Facebook feed post popup sometimes not showing when posting facilities or accepting NCC Thanks (fixed 2 weeks ago)


Post Release Updates - June 14th, 5:00PM
  • Bugfix: NCC "Thanks" button reappearing for the same farmer after scrolling up and down
  • Bugfix: "NCC currently disabled" warning showing up when opening Show Times and Farm Stats screens
  • Bugfix: Every time you open the farm stats screen it will show updated information about the items in your farm
  • Bugfix: Blocked users page is now showing user pictures and a link to their farms



Post Release Updates - June 10th, 3:20PM

  • 11 new Fathers Day decorations, 2 as gift, 2 at the top of the Fathers Day category in the store and 7 at the bottom
  • Enabled Neighborhood Chains Contest (NCC)
  • Enabled Farm Stats in toolbox
  • Enabled Show Times in toolbox
  • Enabled Camera in toolbox
  • Enabled the 'Dirt Path' layering capability that was present in the flash version of the game. Please notice that layering of plants is still not officially supported and layering instructions will not be allowed to be posted on the forums.
  • The 'Use' button is now enabled in the gift box to move animals from gift box directly to farm
  • Fertilized farms now shows the olive green background in the title
  • Enabled the 'Cost' sorting in all store categories
  • Enabled new feature notifications after loading the game
  • When visiting others, the game will show a maximum of 300 animals per farm
  • Much better performance on farms with lot of animals and when the 'Freeze Animals' preference is enabled. However, notice that there is still a limit of 400 animals placed in the farm, if you have more than 400 for any reason, only the first 400 animals in the farm will be harvested, plus, any amount you have in your animal buildings.
  • Bugfix: Less display errors shown on farms with lot of animals
  • Bugfix: Belts screen always showing '0 products stored' for all products in the products tab
  • Bugfix: After using the purple hand with the 'Buy Items from the Store' options, if you use the purple hand again or open the store, the last store category and position will be remembered
  • Bugfix: When visiting others, sometimes animals will show up even if the 'Show Animals When Not At Home' preference is disabled
  • Bugfix: When selecting a combine harvest plow sow, and the crops are hidden in preferences, after you select the seed in the store, all the plow fields disappear
  • Bugfix: When using seeders and combine harvest-plant, some fields remain visible in farm after you drop the tool even when crops are hidden in preferences
  • Bugfix: When using the search to show specific crops and hide everything else, if then you use harvester/combine tools, they are now limited to whatever crops are showing on the screen, ignoring the rest
  • Bugfix: Cannot harvest trees or flowers with the single harvest tool
  • Bugifx: Ships enabled by mistake, they are taking a little longer than expected

On this update we released new content like farms, facilities and a new electric semi and also migrated old features to the new version of the game. New levels will be released in about 4 weeks, with the next content release.[/b]

  • Enabled Avatars: There are still some issues with clothing and face features. Currently the avatar does not walk, only tele-transport to all places. You can use farmers avatars in farms to:

    - Send all type of hire requests except hire for design
    - Send online private chat messages
    - Send offline message
    - Visit farms
    - Add to buddy list

    Note: Map icon and Marketplaces will be enabled in the next few days.

  • Added clipboard support to all areas where you can enter text: WebGL provides very limited support for copy and paste so we had to implement it from scratch.   • Enabled work in single Regular and Service Facilities. You have to open each facility from your farm, click on them and select the 'Show Facility Details' option. We know that most players use the Facility Manager to interact with facilities but this option was necessary to implement the Facility Manager.
  • Enabled harvest of animals inside a single Animal Building, this is now working for all farms. You have to click the animal building in your farm and select the 'Harvest Animals' option. Once harvested, if you mouse over the animal building, the time to harvest info will be updated.
  • Enabled the Search Tool in the Toolbox
  • Added the 4 missing visibility options to the preference screen: Show Regular Facilities, Show Service Facilities, Show Animal Buildings and Show Ground Covers
  • When mouse over items, the yellow highlight was reinforced with a solid and thicker yellow line to make it more visible
  • Added FarmCash balance to the Store screen
  • Enabled the capability of visiting any players farm via a direct link in your browser address bar by adding ?farm_id=USER_ID&farm_ix=FARM_INDEX_NUMBER to the url

  • Several Memory Optimizations: This should allow players to experience less out of memory errors or no memory errors at all, and more players to be able to play the game on low end devices.

Jan 1st 2021 - HTML5/WebGL version of the Game
There is a link to the Unity/HTML5 version of the game in the header at the top.
We are planning to leave the Flash version as the default version until the first browser block the Flash Player.
As there is no facility functionality yet for you to produce fuel, we have disabled the fuel consumption for all the tools in the game until we introduce the Facilities.
As expected, this is a very limited version of the game, we will re-enable all the other features in the coming weeks.
Please report here any issues you may find with this new version, but try not to use this thread to ask about when the rest of the features will be ready, we will have a separate thread for that.

December 23rd 2020 Migration Update:
We already completed all the features that will be released in the restricted version of the game before the end of the year, these features will include all farming tools for crops, trees, flowers and fishing, the free style designers, the Store and the Storage screens, all other functionality will be hidden and enabled gradually in the coming weeks.

As mentioned before, we are using the Unity Game Engine to migrate to the new version of the game, however the HTML5/WebGL component of this engine, which is what we are using to be able to run the game inside the browser, was not performing to the level we expected out of the box, and therefore we had to spend a significant amount of time exploring options to improve performance.

We feel good about the current status and what we will be able to accomplish on the final week, but due to all this time focusing on performance, we will not be able to release any facility functionality as mentioned in the November 30th update. However, we should be able to release full facility functionality in the coming weeks.

The moderators are currently testing the restricted version of the game already, however, their version still do not have any of the performance improvements we are working on.

We are planning on releasing the new version to a small percentage of players in the next few days and will update the Game Migration Update -- December 23th, 2020 thread accordingly.

UPDATE November 30th 2020
This is going to be the last update of the game in the Flash platform. The migration to HTML5 and releasing a restricted version of the game at the end of the month is going as planned, but it will take a few days more for the mods to try the new version as we are optimizing several settings for the game to run properly in the browser, we will continue posting updates as we make progress.

UPDATE October 31st 2020
About 2 years ago, July 2017, the migration team started the conversion of the game from Flash to HTML5. The project was by all standards fairly big, we had about 150,000 lines of flash code and more than 6,000 graphics that had to be converted to the new platform.

Our first approach was a manual approach and we spent several months on it but later realized that we will never going to catch up on time, especially since the main team had to continue releasing new features.

The second approach, which is what we are currently doing, was to create the tools to automate the migration process as much as possible. We finished those tools a few months ago and the initial tests were really encouraging.

The conversion of all graphic items to the new format went according to plan, just minor issues that were fixed relatively quickly.

However, the conversion of the flash code to the new programming language was not as smooth, there were lot of areas where the automatic translation did not work out of the box, and that was fine, it was expected in a big project like this, what we did not expect was that fixing some of those areas would actually be time consuming and error prone, it required more profound changes to implement on the new programming language what we had done in flash.

At this point, we are expecting to release the HTML5 version of the game by the end of the year, however, it will be a restricted version, it should include at least all farming tools and main facility functionality, hopefully more than that but it's difficult to know at this point exactly which functionality will be included. However, we think we have cleared the major hurdles already and we are moving fast, we should have the bulk of the functionality of the game migrated and tested in 1 or 2 months after the first version.

We are also planning by the end of November to give access to moderators and other long time players to test the restricted version of the game.

The good news is that the game will definitely be a better game, the graphics in the farm will look better and the farm will display and operate faster. Also, moving forward we are planning to enable access to the game from browsers in tablets as well.

UPDATE October 3rd 2020
Helping the Migration Team: For the next 3 months we will be spending maybe half of our time helping the migration team in the conversion of the game from Flash to HTML5, so new features and functionality changes will be less than usual in the coming releases. However, new facilities, new levels, seasonal decorations and farm expansions will be released as usual.

UPDATE July 2020
We are still working on the HTML5 version and will be doing beta testing soon. The effort required by this migration has been much more than anticipated, however, at this point we have high confidence that we will complete the full migration before the end of the year.

July 27 2017
As some of you already know, Adobe recently announced that support for their Flash platform will be discontinued at the end of the year 2020. Rest assured that this will not affect Farmtown. We already started working on migrating the FarmTown game away from Flash and onto a newer and more resilient platform.

What does this mean for you? You won’t notice any significant difference when we upgrade the Farmtown game. In fact, we expect that the game will run faster, and it will let us add more features to the game that we haven’t been able to add due to the performance limitations of the existing Flash technology.

You will be able to continue playing Farmtown in your browser, in addition we’ll also add support for Facebook Gameroom for a better game experience.
