First you need to give your farmer a name.
Then you choose, female or male, then click the green check mark.

On the next screen you will find the avatar editor, where you can choose what your avatar will look like.

Click on each selection for Skin, Hair, Eyes, Mouth, Nose, Ears, Eyebrows, Clothes, then chose the options you want by clicking on it. The avatar picture to the left will show you what you have picked. Or you can click on “Try a random look” to let the game make a choice for you. When you are done, click the green check mark.



The game will refresh the page and the game will load with music playing.

The mayor will then take you through the basic steps of farming and what the tools and some icons are for. If you wish to repeat them just click on the Help icon top right of your screen, it looks like a question mark.

You will have a few basic things on your farm to start you off:
One orange tree, one apple tree, one lemon tree, 5 white fences, a water trough, 1 pig, 1 sheep.
14 fields which are the following>>
2 of which are plowed ready for planting,
2 tomato fields, 2 potato fields, 2 rice fields, ready to harvest.
2 tomato fields, 2 potato fields, 2 rice fields in various stages of growth



At the bottom of the screen is the Game bar which has 2 main sections.


Your profile picture will show in the neighbours bar and you would also normally see the head of your avatar displayed under the profile picture in the neighbours bar as well as those of any neighbours you will have. Those will be added back once that part of the migration of the game is completed.

The Neighbours/Chat section is where you will see the friends you add as neighbours. When you get more than 7 neighbours you can use the arrows to the left to scroll the bar to see more of them. In some cases with browsers and various types of computer mouse you can also click and hold down your left mouse button on those spaces to drag them, or use the mouse wheel to move them left/right.

The CHAT button allows you to open and close the Chat box. When someone arrives at your farm it will automatically open in place of where your neighbours are showing. When the Chat box is open, just start typing and then click on SEND to send your message or if you are using a keyboard, you can click the Enter/Return key on it instead of clicking on Send. Anyone online where you are can see what you have sent.

The right side of the Game bar is where you have some basic tools. Hover over some of the icons there and it will tell you what it is. The "Walk" icon (green man) is what you click on after you have been using a tool and want to stop using it. You have tools for harvesting and plowing, toolbox (where more tools are and any new tools you buy and add to storage will show), you can access your buddy list, see the trophies you earn, access the Store, your Gift Box, Storage and the MAP. There are more details on all of these items in the other Chapters of the Game Guide. As you harvest crops, harvest or chop trees, harvest flowers or fish those harvests will be sent to your storage for you to use in facilities or just sell at market.

You can also move some of those tools to other positions in that area and even use some of the neighbours spaces to put more tools or icons in those areas. The blank space is one of the spaces that can be used. More details about how to do that are in the How to Use Shortcuts post later in the Game Guide.

Full Screen when clicked on will fill your monitor screen with the game screen, making it much bigger to see, which some find easier. You will find that as you progress through the game and get more involved in other features that you would need to come back out of Full Screen to use them. To go back to normal screen just click on the Full Screen icon again. The plus and minus just below that allow you to zoom the farm in or out (if you have a mouse wheel, you can use that to zoom instead of clicking on the icons).

The blank space is where you can place a tool or icon from the toolbox to use it without opening the toolbox. More details about how to do that are in the How to Use Shortcuts post described later in the Game Guide.

This is the Help icon, it is at the top right corner of your game screen. Click it if you need another look at the basic guide to some of the items.


Congratulations. Now you know the basics, you can play!

You can change your appearance at any time by clicking on your avatar and selecting "Change Appearance" which will appear in a pop-up.

This will launch the edit avatar screen where you can change your appearance.

Click the tab "My Account" on top of your game screen. This will take you to another screen where you can change the name of your avatar.

Once your name's been changed, the game will automatically update the list of your neighbours and your "buddies" to show your new name.

This is also where you can change the gender of your avatar.

As of April 2018, as part of Facebook security updates, there is a new requirement that you have to re-authorise the game to access your basic information like name, picture and friends which are essential to the operation of the game. This will happen every 90 days.

***The only information about your friends that we access is the name and picture, and we use that info strictly inside the game, we don't provide or sell that info to any third party.***

It is very easy to do

If you need to do this you will see the following popup when you load the game.



Click the "Continue as xxx" and another popup up will appear.
In the next popup check that under "Who can see Farm Town's post on your Timeline?" it shows "Public" or "Friends". If it doesn't, click the drop down arrow and change the setting.
Then you need to click OK



That's it, you are done! You will be able to continue playing Farm Town!

I did not authorise Farm Town, how can i fix this?

If you did not allow access for your basic information and your friends list as shown in the post above, then you may not be able to load the game or at least participate in all features of Farm Town. The next time you load the game you may be asked again to give those permissions.

If this does not happen, go to your Facebook Settings then Apps and Websites.
There are 3 tabs

• Active
• Expired
• Removed

Look under Active and see if Farm Town is listed there. If it is then you are likely fine, but you can also check the items the game has access to by clicking the View and Edit. You need to give access to your basic information like name, picture and friends, permission to post on your behalf etc.

If Farm Town is not there, click on and look under Expired. If you see Farm Town there, click View and Edit and then Renew Access.

Why you should Secure your access to your FarmTown account!

Information from the Slashkey developers 18th October 2022:

Most of our time in the past month has been dedicated to comply with new Facebook security requirements, and still, Farmtown was deactivated by Facebook for 1 week.

We decided that Farmtown will continue to be accessed on Facebook, however, if Facebook requirements become too demanding in the future, we may have to move Farmtown to our own dedicated website.

In this case, the only way to access your current Facebook Farmtown account will be if you have it linked to your email.

The next time you load the game, you will see a screen allowing you to link your current Facebook Farmtown account to your email.

If you have multiple Facebook Farmtown accounts, you will have to link each one to a different email.

If for some reason you lose access to the linked email inbox, please remember to link your Facebook Farmtown account again to another email, otherwise, you will not be able to access your Facebook Farmtown farms on the new Farmtown website.

When the new Farmtown website is ready, we will send you an email to the linked email you provided with instructions on how to access your Facebook Farmtown farms in the new Farmtown website.

When you have completed the linking of your email to your Facebook Farmtown account, the top section will show the current linked email and an option to change the email.

The 'click here' button should only be used if you have lost access to the email address currently linked to your Facebook Farmtown account.

New Method to Register your Email to Farm Town!!!
March 8th 2023




This in game Registration MUST be done for your Farm Town data to be saved and for you to access your farms on the new website.
If you do NOT do this, you risk losing it ALL!!!

Before you start please note the following:

• ONE email address for each Farm Town Account!
  If you are logged into more than one Facebook account on ANY device, log out of all of them THEN close ALL of your browsers BEFORE you open ONE browser and log into ONLY ONE account to register an email for that Account. If you need to register another account, repeat that process for each one or you can get problems with registering each of them.
  
  
• When you register an email address and password in the windows in Farm Town you are providing the 2 log in details you need to play Farm Town on the new website which are an email address and the password you chose. This confirms your farms as yours and your data will be saved so that all of your farms and what is on them will move over to the website.
  

  Putting a different password into the registration than what you may be using to log into Facebook account or your email account will NOT change those passwords. You still log into both of those the same way you always have!
  
  You are NOT giving the game access to read your Emails or to log into your Facebook account!

• You do NOT need to use the same email address that you used to create your Facebook account. Many have lost access to using those emails and can't remember the passwords for them. Just use one that you have that you can access to read the emails. This is in case you need to be sent an email with instructions on how to log into the new website.
  
  
• When you register in the game. You need to remember the email address you used and ALSO remember the password you used!!!
  Make a note of them, don't just save them on your computer or browser.
  
  You do NOT need to take a photo of your log in details for Farm Town or pictures of your farms. When you register correctly all the data for all of your farms including Farm Cash will be transferred when the time comes to go to the new website!
  Some people like to do this, but these are NOT your credentials. Your credentials are the email address you used and the password you used to register in the game!
  
  When you have completed the registration in the game, you will be asked to verify those details over the next 5 days.
  
  The day after you registered, you may also be asked for permission to give Farm Town the email address you used to create your Facebook account just as an added extra security. You will not be asked to provide a password for that step.

How to Register

STEP 1:

If you have still not registered, when you load the game a large window will open, like the picture below.

Please READ the information in that window so you are fully aware of the risks if you do NOT register!!!



Do NOT click on the RED "I understand the risk of not registering now, close this screen" unless you do NOT wish to register. If you do NOT register your farm data will not be saved and you will not be able to access your farms on the new website.
If you clicked on it by mistake, just reload the game and the window will reappear.

Those that don't register will be reminded again and will also see the registration window again.

STEP 2:

In the Enter Email Address line, enter the email address that you want to use.

If you previously registered, the email address that you used will be showing in the Enter Email Address line. If it's still correct and you have access to use that email, you don't have to change it.

If the email you see in the Enter Email Address line is incorrect, delete the email address and change it to the email address that you use now and will keep active!

STEP 3:

In Create a New Password line, type in ANY password that you want to use. Make it memorable, you need to remember what it is. Remember this isn't changing your login passwords for your emails or your Facebook account. You are creating a password for you to be able to log into the website.

Make a note of both the email and the passwords you used in this window so you can find it. You WLL need them again!

If you need to see what password you are typing in, click on the RED EYE!
That eye will then turn Black and you will be able to see what password you are typing in.

STEP 4:

When you are SURE that you have entered your email address and password correctly, click on Register

STEP 5:

You will then see another smaller window asking you to confirm your credentials, which means entering the same email address AND the Password you just used to register.
You MUST also do this step!



When you are SURE that you have entered your email address and password correctly, click on Verify Login


Do NOT click on the red Update your Registration text. If you do you will have to start all over again. ONLY do that IF your email address has changed or you need to change the password.
Remember Facebook can take the game down without notice so try not to make any mistakes!

After clicking on Verify Login you will see a popup with a check mark. Click on the green check mark to close the popup.



That's it, you are done for the day.

The following day you will need to do this again until you have done it for the next 5 days!! You do not have to do them in 5 consecutive days if you need to be away for a short time, but is IS recommended that you do at least one or more before you go and the rest as soon as you are back.

This Verification window appears roughly every 16 hours, for most that would usually be once a day, but depending on how long you play for every day, it is possible to see it a 2nd time.

The information about how many days you have left to do is in that smaller verification window. In this example there is only 1 day left to do.


When you have verified 5 times, you will NOT be able to change your log in details (email and password) for the new website, so try to get it right first time!

If you have never given Farm Town permission to see the email address that you used for your Facebook Account then you may also be asked for permission to give Farm Town the email address you used to create your Facebook account just as an added extra security.
You will not be asked to provide a password for that step.
You will not be asked to do that if you already gave that permission which usually happens when you first started playing Farm Town.

If you have not given that permission:
The next time you see that verification window where you put in your email and password for the Farm Town website and have then clicked on Verify Login you will see this popup:

Click on the green check to give that permission, click on the red X if you do not want that extra security to be given.


When you click on the green check mark, if you already gave permission the popup will just close, if you did not give permission when you click on the green check mark you will see this, but it will be your name showing.
You will NOT be asked to provide the Facebook account password.
This does not affect the email and password you already provided in the previous steps. You will still be able to use those on the new website.
The Facebook email address will be sent as an extra security.

Click on Continue as XXXX and that window will close:

The Verification window is also where you can change your email address or enter a new password.

If you have forgotten your email address or password or are seeing in red text
Invalid email or password, please try again.
(This users details have been greyed out in the picture below)

Click on the red Update your Registration text.

You will then see the much bigger window that includes the warning about not registering as shown in Step 1 in this post.

If there is any information showing in the email or password lines, delete them all and type the correct ones in making sure that there are NO mistakes before you proceed with the registration again.
