You can get rid of it and all the adds down the side by using a neat little extension in Chrome. There is a website for it so if you do a search on "Hide FB Activity Bar - Version: 0.0.1", it will take you there. There is also a link for firefox users as well.

google friendly gaming simplifier. There is one for Chrome and for Firefox
