Default What are Neighbours and Buddies for?

What are Neighbours and Buddies for?

Neighbours can help you with features in the game, like gifting, requirements to buy your 3rd farm, Refuelling criteria, Item Storage capacity, some types of quests, trains, ships, facility chains and other features of the game.

Buddies on the Website are far more important and useful now, than they used to be. They can't help you with every feature in the game where only neighbours can help with, but Buddies are very useful to help you with things like gifts, working your facilities, sending ingredients and bonuses to mention a few.

The old Buddy list has Changed to be your Farmer Lists.
This new method will help you make new Neighbour/Buddy connections and meet up with Neighbours, Buddies as well as adding a connection to any Facebook friends you had prior to the game leaving Facebook.

There are icons you will need to know about to be able to use them.
We will explain how to use these icons to add/remove neighbours, buddies, current Facebook friends with no connection you in game yet, and also how change neighbours to buddies, and the other way around!!

These are the versions of the Farmer Lists Icon.

You may see the one on the left (brown background) in your game bar at the bottom of the game screen when you first start playing.

If you don't see it there, click on the Yellow Toolbox then look for the one with a grey background at the bottom of the the far left column.

The Farmers List icon also shows at the top of the game screen next to the message envelope.

When you have any requests your Farmer Lists Icon will have a number showing on it. The Toolbox will also have a number, but remember that the Toolbox icon numbers can also mean ships at your port and trains for you to boost.

Why has the method to add remove neighbours and buddies changed?

The Older type of Facebook friends list was used in FarmTown on Facebook for features like:
  • sending gifts,
  • sending train boosts
  • posting & working facilities
  • ingredients and bonuses.

Now that Farm Town is no longer on Facebook the Website no longer has access to know who your Facebook friends are, their names and profile pictures or when you or your friends on Facebook may change them.
Farm Town can ONLY use the Neighbours and Buddies you have on your Farmer Lists, to help you with many features of the game.

The Neighbour capacity has already been expanded by 33% and the Buddy Capacity expanded 3 times to give you more farmers to help.

It is important to know the Differences between Neighbours and Buddies and how they will help you.

Neighbours and Buddies can be a one one way connection or a mutual connection.

A mutual Neighbour connection, means that you can see a specific friend in your own Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen AND that specific friend can see you in their own Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen.

A mutual Buddy connection means you have a specific friend in your own Buddy List and that specific friend can also see you in their own Buddy List.

One way connections are still very useful for helping other farmers that may be starting to play and for you to work out who will, won't or can't yet participate in all of the possible features in Farm Town. Having Buddies also gives you far more farmers to help you with things like facility work, gifts, ingredients, bonuses. Should a Neighbour stop playing or participating in a feature it will then be much easier to swap them for a current Buddy that is participating/playing regularly.

Examples of a one way Neighbour connection:

  1. You can see a specific friend in your Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen. This means you have that friend as one of your Neighbours.

BUT that specific friend can not see you in their own Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen. This means that specific friend does not have you as one of their own Neighbours. You may be one of their Buddies instead of being a Neighbour.

  2. A specific friend can see you in their Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen. This means your friend has you as one of their Neighbours.

BUT you can NOT see that specific friend in your own Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen. This means that you do not have them as one of your own own Neighbours. They may be one of your Buddies instead of being a Neighbour.

These one way connections can also apply to Buddies!!!!

You do not need to have a friend as both a Neighbour and a Buddy.
That would just use more of your capacity limits which is the least effective way to maximise the amount of farmers that can help you and who you can help. That extra capacity could be used to connect with someone else that isn't already one of your Neighbours or one of your Buddies.

If a current neighbour sends you a Buddy Request, you can still accept it so that they have a connection with you, but you do not need to add them as a Buddy as well as you already have them as your Neighbour.

Remember, that some features of the game you may want help with, can only be done with Neighbours.
It will be up to you to decide who can help you with what you like to do in the game to know who to put on which list.

Those that are not a Neighbour or Buddy and you are not trying to hire at market so that they earn a bonus chest, you need to make a connection with in game with so they can help you with other features like working facilities, sending gifts/ingredients/bonuses, ships, trains and any other features you like to participate in.

You can also add non-Facebook friends as Neighbours or Buddies on the Website. Some farmers prefer not to have a Facebook account.

The examples below show who can and can't work facilities:
  • For other farmers to work YOUR facilities, after you post them.
ONLY the farmers that have you as a Neighbour OR Buddy will see your posts.
(THEY can see YOU in the Neighbours bar at the bottom of their game screen
OR THEY can see YOU in their Buddy List)

  • For YOU to work other farmers facilities, after they post them.
YOU will see ONLY the posts from farmers that YOU have as a Neighbour OR Buddy.
(YOU can see them in the Neighbours bar at the bottom of YOUR game screen
OR YOU can see them in YOUR own Buddy List)

No connection within Farm Town on the website means that they are NOT ANY of these:
  • Not one of your Neighbours
  • Not one of your Buddies
  • You are not one of their Neighbours
  • You are not one of their Buddies

Which means that any new Facebook friends or any new Website friends without a connection to you as a Neighbour or Buddy:

  • can NOT work your facilities as they won't be able to see them
  • you WON'T see their facility posts to be able to work them
  • you CAN'T send train boosts to them as they won't be shown as part of the neighbour or buddy lists
  • they CAN'T send you train boosts as you won't be shown as part of their neighbour or Buddy lists.
  • You won't be able to help them with ingredients or bonus posts, send them gifts. They will not be able to help you with your own ingredients or bonus posts and they won't be able to send you gifts.

This lack of a connection can also affect other features within the game that requires it.

You can have roughly up to 500 farming friends which will be a combination of Neighbours and Buddies.

To maximize the amount of farmers you interact with it's better not to add the same farmer as both a Neighbour and also as a Buddy.
Keeping different farmers on the Buddy List than you have as your Neighbour gives you more farmers that can help you.

The Buddy capacity is larger than the Neighbour capacity.

A fine balance has to be maintained within the game that doesn't adversely impact all the other features of the game which may require only neighbours to help, which is why the Neighbour limit is a smaller amount.

There is information within the Farmers Lists that can help to you know what your capacity limit is for each type of List and shows many Neighbours and Buddies you currently have.

More Information on Neighbour/Buddy connections:
  • Ships - when the Neighbour connection is only at their end you can still receive their Ships if they have you as a Neighbour.
You can not put them on your own Logbook until they are one of your Neighbours.

  • Trains - when the connection is only at their end you can still receive their Train boosts and Boost them.
You can NOT send them a Train boost until they are one of your Neighbours OR one of your Buddies.

  • Bonus Chest - Currently Neighbours and Buddies don't earn the Bonus Chest when hired at market which gives additional rewards for hiring a stranger (extra box) and being hired by a stranger at the Job Marketplace.

UPDATE 19 OCT 2023: There is now a new indication when clicking on an avatar and in a received job request that shows you when a farmer is one of your Neighbours or one of your Buddies. Those will also show up in other areas of the game like when you work facilities for others.

  • Neighbours can only see your super facility trading buckets in the Sell Super Facility Products to Neighbours section.

  • In the NCC you can send Thanks to Neighbours and Buddies.

  • You can ONLY use Neighbours to BOTH Import and Export from in the Facility Chains
If someone has a you as one of their Neighbours, but you do NOT have them as your Neighbour. You can Import from them, but you can NOT Export to them until they are also on your Neighbour list.

Default How to use the Friends list

How to use the Friends list
Add/remove/change Neighbours and Buddies.
Sending Neighbour/Buddy Requests using USER ID or Email.

The Friends List contains 5 sections:

In this picture the My Neighbour tab is selected, it's background colour is orange, as you click on each different section, the section that you are viewing turns orange the others will have a brown background.

  1. My Neighbours - your current Neighbours
  2. My Buddies - your current Buddies
  3. Facebook Friends - this list stopped updating when the game left Facebook!!
The Facebook Friends section will show Neighbours, Buddies and more importantly Facebook friends that you don't have a connection with yet in the game. No requests are sent when you add as Neighbour or Buddy. It works very much like the Manage you can see in various areas of the Website game.
  4. Neighbour Requests - is where Neighbour requests will be for you to review/accept/decline when someone send you a request using the avatar menu or when visiting/working for you using the Toolbox bottom right to send Neighbour or Buddy Requests.
A number in red will be on that section when you have a Neighbour Request.

  5. Buddy Requests - are where Buddy requests will be for you to review/accept/decline when someone send you a request using the avatar menu or when visiting/working for you using the Toolbox bottom right to send Neighbour or Buddy Requests.
A number in red will be on that section when you have a Buddy Request.

  6. Reverse Neighbours - Allows you to manage farmers that have you as a Neighbour. Notice that you may or may not have them as your neighbour. There are icons to add them to your neighbours, message them or remove yourself from their neighbours without having to visit their farms.

  7. Reverse Buddies - Allows you to manage farmers that have you as a Buddy. Notice that you may or may not have them as your Buddy. There are icons to add them to your neighbours, message them or remove yourself from their neighbours without having to visit their farms

There are some common icons/tools you can use in some of the different sections:
In both the My Neighbours Section and the My Buddies Sections:

At the top is a a search bar that you can type in to find specific farmers by Name or Avatar Name and the A-Z filter to sort the list by category.

Seeing a green dot means that farmer is online. This will show in the My Neighbours, My Buddies and the Facebook Friends sections.

Clicking on the green dot will give you options to send a Request to join that farmer or to Ask them to join you so that you can meet up, as long as where you are meeting up isn't a private farm! Only farm owners can go to Private farms.

Clicking on the message icon lets you send an in game message to them.

Clicking on the green man takes you to that farmers default farm as long as that farm is not private. If the default farm is private, is you will be sent to a different farm that isn't private.

Yellow Bulldozer (Remove Tool)
  • In My Neighbours will remove that farmer from the Neighbour List and your Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen.

  • In My Buddies it removes them from your Buddy List.

  • In Facebook Friends it removes them from your Facebook Friends section in the game AND removes YOU from their Facebook Friends section in the game.
This does not remove any Friend connections you made on Facebook.
NOTE: Removing a farmer from the Facebook Friends section can not be reversed!
You will be asked to confirm removal of a farmer in this section.
Example of the warning. Clicking the green check mark removes, clicking the red X cancels the action.

------------------------------------------------------------

The My Neighbours section lists all your current Neighbours.

Top Left of this section is your Neighbour Count and Capacity percentage.

The BLUE Silhouette icon top left is another method to send a Neighbour Request to a farming friend when they have given you either their USER ID or their email address to use to be able to send a Request to them without meeting up in game.

You must have room in your Neighbour List to be able to Add them to your list. When you have their USER ID or email, click on the blue icon and enter the information in the box that shows then click on Send Neighbour Request.

That request will then be sent to their Neighbour Requests section where they will be able to add you as a Neighbour or Buddy if needed and Accept the Request.

Clicking on this changes your Neighbour to a Buddy and Removes them from your Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen.

You will see a popup to confirm the change which you can click the green check mark to confirm or the red X to cancel.

When you see this icon it means you have a farmer on both Lists. In this My Neighbours section you can click on that Icon to remove them as a Buddy but still keep them as a Neighbour.

You will see a popup to confirm the change which you can click the green check mark to confirm or the red X to cancel.

------------------------------------------------------------

The My Buddies Section lists all your current Buddies.

Top Left of this section is your Buddy Count and Capacity percentage

The GREEN Silhouette top left is another method to send a Buddy Request to a farming friend when they have given you either their USER ID or their email address to use to be able to send a Request to them without meeting up in game.

You must have room in your Buddy List to be able to Add them to your list. When you have their USER ID or email, click on the green icon and enter the information in the box that shows then click on Send Buddy Request.

That request will then be sent to their Buddy Requests section where they will be able to add you as a Buddy or a Neighbour if needed, and Accept the Request.

Clicking on this changes your Buddy to a Neighbour and Removes them from your Buddy List

You will see a popup to confirm the change which you can click the green check mark to confirm or the red X to cancel.

When you see this icon it means you have a farmer on both Lists. In the My Buddies section you can click on that Icon to remove them as a Neighbour but still keep them as a Buddy.

You will see a popup to confirm the change which you can click the green check mark to confirm or the red X to cancel.

--------------------------------------------------------

The Facebook Friends section:

  • At the top is a a search bar that you can type in to find specific farmers by Name or Avatar Name and the A-Z filter to sort the list by category.

  • Current Neighbours will have a (Blue background)

  • Current Buddies will have a (Green background)

  • ANY Facebook Friends that had you as a Neighbour or Buddy BEFORE the game left Facebook that you do not have as your Neighbour or your Buddy will have a white background.
If you want to continue playing with those with white background you need to add them to your Neighbour or Buddy List.
This list is no longer updated when you make any changes to Facebook Friends.

This section also has an A-Z filter to view the list in different ways. Click on the A-Z, then click on the option you want to use.

For Friends that you have not added as a Neighbour or Buddy yet.
You can filter the list to Non Neighbour or Buddy, then those will all show at the top of the list first. Neighbours and Buddies will then be below those.

Non Neighbours and Non-Buddies will have a white background until you mouseover their box and then the background changes to yellow.

Both of these icons will be showing up. Neither icon will be dimmed out.

Click on the blue one to Add them as your Neighbour.
Click on the Green one to add them as your Buddy.

On current Neighbours and Buddies you can use the icon that is not dimmed to change that farmer to another list, Neighbour to Buddy or Buddy to Neighbour.
  • If they are only a Buddy and you change them to a Neighbour, as long as there is room in your capacity to change them to a Neighbour they are then added to your Neighbours and removed from your Buddy List.
  • If they are only a Neighbour and you change them to a Buddy, as long as there is room in your capacity to change them to a Buddy they are then added to your Buddy and removed from your Neighbour List.

When one of these Icons is dimmed on a Neighbour or Buddy that means they are already on one of your Lists.
  • Dimmed Blue silhouette means they are your Neighbour.
  • Dimmed Green silhouette means they are your Buddy.

When both icons are dimmed on the same farmer, it means you have that farmer as both a Neighbour and a Buddy which means you are using up 2 spaces for one farmer and are not maximizing the amount of farmers you could have that can help you.

You may want to make a decision on if they would be better for you as a Neighbour OR a Buddy and remove them from one List using the My Neighbors section or My Buddies section.

------------------------------------------------------------

Neighbour and Buddy Request sections:

These Requests all require your consent to be added as a Neighbour or a Buddy to another famers list. This type of Request will have been sent using the Visit Toolbox icons OR the icons in a received in game message. How to use those methods to send requests will be explained later in this Chapter.

This section will show you any Neighbour Requests you have received. You no longer use the My Neighbours tab above the game to request/remove Neighbours.

This section will show you any Buddy Requests you have received.

Both types of Requests will have been sent using the Visit Toolbox when you are on another farmers farm OR when sent using a received in game Message. We will explain those other methods later this Chapter.

When you receive a Request there will be a number on the Farmers List icon to show you how many you have received.

This example is showing 2 Neighbour or Buddy Requests on the Farmers List icon.
The one with the green background is located up by your Message Envelope at the top of your game screen. The other 2 are what the farmers List icon looks like in your toolbox and if you were to add that icon as a shortcut to your game bar at the bottom of your screen.

The Yellow toolbox will also increment in numbers, but please remember the toolbox numbers can also include ships at your port and any train boosts you have received in your Train Manager.

Using the Blue buttons on each Request you can Accept or Reject the Request.

This is an Example of a Neighbour Request. There is a 1 on the Neighbour Request section:
In this example you can see that both the blue Add as Neighbour and green Add as Buddy icons are not dimmed, this means that they are not one of your Neighbours and are not one of your Buddies yet. So you have the option of adding them to either list assuming you have room to add them.

This is an Example of a Buddy Request. There is a 1 on the Buddy Request section:
In this example you can see that the blue Add as Neighbour icon is not dimmed but the green Add as Buddy icon is dimmed. This means that this farmer is not your Neighbour but is one of your Buddies.

In this case you can still Accept the Request as it may have been sent as they do not have YOU as their Neighbour or their Buddy so need a connection with you to be able to help you and for you to help them.
You don't have to add them to list as you already have them as a Buddy.
You can change them to a Neighbour if you wish as that blue Add as Neighbour icon is not dimmed.
You can change them to a Neighbour if you wish.

The pictures below show you what an an Accepted or a Rejected Request will look like:

IF Neighbour/Buddy Lists for you or the famer sending the request are already full by the time you try to Accept a request or try to add someone to your own lists you will see a brief notification telling you which list is full.

------------------------------------------------------------

Reverse Neighbours and Reverse Buddies sections:

- This section shows you the farmers that have you on THEIR Neighbour List.
Blue Background means that they are ALSO your Neighbour.
Green Background means that they are YOUR Buddy.
White Background means that they are not on your Neighbour or on your Buddy list. If the date in their information indicates that they are still active in the game then you may want o add them to your Neighbour or Buddy List if you have space to add them.
- This section shows you the farmers that have you on THEIR Buddy List.
Green Background means that they are ALSO your Buddy.
Blue Background means that they are YOUR Buddy.
White Background means that they are not on your Neighbour or on your Buddy list. If the date in their information indicates that they are still active in the game then you may want to add them to your Neighbour or Buddy List if you have space to add them.
NOTES: about Reverse Neighbours and Reverse Buddies.
  • A farmer showing up in BOTH of the Reverse Neighbours and Reverse Buddies sections means that farmer has added you to both their Neighbour List and also to their Buddy list.

  • Make sure to check the blue and green silhouettes in their information. IF both icons are dimmed then you have also added them to both of your lists.

  • This is the least effective way to get as many farmers helping you as you can.
You may want to go to your My Neighbours or My Buddies list and remove them from one List if you are short on capacity to add Neighbours or Buddies.

Default How to use the Visitor Toolbox

How to use the Visitor Toolbox

The Visitor Toolbox can be seen bottom LEFT of your game screen when you are on another farmers farm.
You would go to another farmers farm if you were visiting a Neighbour/a Buddy/a Strangers farm to look at them or perhaps look at co-operative quests that may help your own quests, when hired to work for others, when working your Neighbours or Buddies facilities.

Although the icon looks the same, this Visitor Toolbox is not the same Toolbox that you can see bottom right of your game screen where you would go to get your own tools to use.

The Visitor Toolbox when you are on another farmers farm can be used to:
  • Send a Neighbour or Buddy Request
  • Remove yourself as their Neighbour or Buddy
  • Manage a Neighbours Trains if you are a Super Neighbour with that specific permission.
  • View what Belts that farmer has earned.
  • View what Trophies that farmer has earned.

To open it when you are on another farmers farm, click on the Toolbox bottom left of your game screen where it shows you who you are visiting.
This is an example of what you could see, some of the icons can be dimmed when you look, as they can be different for each farmer.

To Send a Neighbour Request to that farmer, click on this icon if it's not dimmed. That farmer would then need to look for that Request in their Farmers List to accept/decline and would then be able to add you to one of their own Neighbour or Buddy Lists if they wished.
When this icon is dimmed it means that farmer is already one of your Neighbours.

To Remove Yourself from that farmers Neighbour List, click on this icon. You will see a popup with information asking you to to confirm. Click the green check mark to remove yourself from their list, click the red X if you do not wish to proceed.

To Send a Buddy Request to that farmer, click on this icon if it's not dimmed. That farmer would then need to look for that Request in their Farmers List to accept/decline and would then be able to add you to one of their own Neighbour or Buddy Lists if they wished.
When this icon is dimmed it means that farmer is already one of your Buddies.

To Remove Yourself from that farmers Buddy List, click on this icon. . You will see a popup with information asking you to to confirm. Click the green check mark to remove yourself from their list, click the red X if you do not wish to proceed.

This would give you access to the farm owners Train Manger when you have permission to manage their trains.
When this icon is dimmed like this it means that you do not have permission to manage that farmers trains.
When you do have permission to manage their trains the icon will no longer be greyed out. If any of their friends trains are in that farmers Train Manager there will be a number on the icon to show how many there are.
You will not know if any of that farmers own trains can be Unloaded or Dispatched until you click on the Icon and check.
Please do not assume that you can manage any trains or train boosts that farm owner has without their express permission. The Farm Pass feature of the game has daily and seasonal goals which the farm owner may need them for, to complete those.

Clicking on this icon will show you what Belts the farm owner has reached for things like crops, trees, flowers, fish and products. It is information only but can be useful if the farm owner wants specific crops planted to reach a new belt or dan if you are doing farm work for them.

The Trophy icon is a list of the trophies they have earned. This farmer has earned 14 trophies. This is also only for information. AT the moment ignore the percentages and figures for Neighbours that you see as those are not always working correctly yet. The figures for shopping can not always display the correct amount especially when the farm owner has done a lot of buying with coins as this section is limited on how many digits it can show.

Default Requesting Neighbours or Buddies Using a received in game message

Requesting Neighbours or Buddies Using a received in game message.

There are new icons at the bottom of an in game message received that can allow you to send a Neighbour or Buddy Request to that farmer.

In this post we are only explaining how to know which icons are for sending a Neighbour request and a Buddy request, how to send a request and how to know if that farmer is already a neighbour or buddy.

Example of a message Tiger has received from Hetty:

When you are not a Neighbour or a Buddy for the farmer who sent you a message, both of these icons will not be dimmed.
  • Clicking on the blue icon Sends a Neighbour Request to that farmer.

  • Clicking on the green icon Sends a Buddy Request to that farmer.

When you send a Request you will see a popup asking you to confirm, just incase you clicked on it by mistake.

To send the request click the green check mark.

To cancel the request click the red X.

  • That farmer will then need to check their own Farmers List to see the request and it will be up to them to accept or decline it.
They will also be able to choose if they want to also add you as one of their own Neighbours or their own Buddies.

A dimmed blue icon means that farmer is already your Neighbour.

A dimmed green icon means that farmer is already your Buddy.

Both icons dimmed means they are both a Neighbour and a Buddy.

Remember:

You can always change farmers between Neighbour and Buddy lists later on,
by using the Farmer Lists.

Default How to use the Avatar Menu to Send a Neighbour or Buddy Request.

How to use the Avatar Menu to Send a Neighbour or Buddy Request.

These Requests all require the farmer who receives the request to accept the request before you can have that farmer as a Neighbour or Buddy.

You both need to be online in the game. Look top right of your game screen, if this icon is red you are offline, click on it to go back online or reload the game.

You need to be able to see each other in the same location.
You can meet up on any farm that isn't private.

You can see farmers online at one of the Markets, the Realtors or the Inn.
To go to one of these areas, click on the MAP icon bottom right of your game screen then click on the area you want to go to.

How to check if you have a connection to farmer using the Avatar menu
Click their Avatar and and a menu will appear.

If the farmer is already on your Neighbour or a Buddy list, under their Avatar name it will say
Your Neighbour or Your Buddy.
YOU do not need to send a Request.

If the farmer has NO indication of a connection under their Avatar
OR it says Has you as a Neighbour or Has you as a Buddy
YOU DO need to send them a request.

To Send a Neighbour Request OR a Buddy Request:

Click on their Avatar, scroll down and click on Add to Neighbours to send a Neighbour Request, when it turns orange, click on it to send a Request.

OR

Click on their Avatar, scroll down and click on Add to Buddy List to send a Buddy Request, when it turns orange, click on it to send a Request.

When you send a Request the farmer receiving the request will see a message like this, with some options. It will be up to them to accept or decline the request and if they also want to add you to one of their own lists.

If the request is accepted you will see this:

If the request is declined you will see this:

If there is no response, the farmer may have clicked the little x in the top of the message, or left that area, or already gone offline by the time you sent it.

Default How to use the Neighbours Bar at the bottom of my game screen.

How to use the Neighbours Bar at the bottom of my game screen.

When you first start playing Farm Town you don't have any Neighbours yet so you would only see your own Avatar box in your Neighbours bar at the bottom of your game screen.

As you add Neighbours they will also be added to the Neighbours bar for you to see along with Avatar names, avatar picture, profile pictures if they have one and and other information.

Your own avatar and information will also be showing there.

This is an example of a farmers Neighbours Bar:
On the right side it contains the basic tools you start out with on Farm Town.

This farmer (David) has 2 neighbours, Angel and Hetty which are to the left of his own picture.
David's own profile box has a darker yellow background. This makes it easier for you to spot your own box when you have far more neighbours.

Angel's box has a dark red background. She has set her Avatar status as Unavailable as she is away for a few days on Vacation. This can help you when you need to know how long a farmer is likely to be away for, for various features in the game. It can also help your faming friends know you are way without needing to message them. To go to How to set your status as Unavailable and how to check how long another farmer is Unavailable for which includes Buddies CLICK HERE

Hetty's box has a pale yellow background. She has not set her status as unavailable as she is expecting to play regularly.

This is bigger example of what you could see in the neighbours bar. It's easier to read and explain all the coloured dots you may see on a neighbour and the various numbers shown.

As you get more Neighbours, you will see that your own box will has a darker yellow background. This helps when you want to order your Neighbours bar by specific categories. In the above example it's ordered by Online Statuses so David's online Neighbour is shown to the right of his box.

All your neighbours will have the pale yellow background in their box unless they have set their status as Unavailable like Angel has so she has a red background.

Each box contains the farmers Avatar Name at the top.
Under the Avatar name is their profile picture.
Under the profile picture is their Avatar picture (head only) which can help you to identify them when you meet up where other farmers are.

Small black number towards the top left of each box, is your position amongst your neighbours according to how you choose to Order the neighbours bar. When Ordering by Co-operative Quests farmers are listed from highest to lowest experience points.

The white number on a round green background are yours and each of your neighbours game level.

Below the avatar pictures the numbers change according to what you Order the neighbours bar by.

The order you see your Neighbours listed by can also change according to what you Order the neighbours bar by.

What are the coloured dots?

Green dot shows when you or your Neighbour are online in the game.

Red dot is your Super Neighbour. Super Neighbours are explained in Chapter 06 - Super Neighbours

Purple dot. You are their Super Neighbour. Super Neighbours are explained in Chapter 06 - Super Neighbours

Blue dot means that farmer has at least one co-operative quest open. Co-operative Quests are explained in Chapter 28 Quests

Beige dot means that farmer has trading offers in the Trading Warehouse. Buying, Selling Trading are explained in Chapter 10

The yellow boxes with the blue silhouette can be clicked on to send a Neighbour request to a farmer. You will need their farm ID to be able to enter the ID into the box that shows.
Any farming friend can get their own farm ID by scrolling down past the yellow box underneath their game screen and look for the number showing after Your USER ID number is:

Enter the number using your computer keyboard, then click on Send Neighbour Request.

If the ID is invalid, when you click on Send Neighbour Request, you will that see in red text like this and the request will not be sent:

If the ID is valid but that farmer is already your Neighbour, when you click on Send Neighbour Request, you will see this:

If they are not already a Neighbour, when you click on Send Neighbour Request you will see this type of message.

Click on the green check mark to send the Request:
Clicking on the red X cancels sending the request.

When you send the request you will then also see a brief notification that it was sent:

If they accept they then become one of your Neighbours. If you know that they have accepted it but you are not seeing them in your Neighbour bar yet, try reloading the game for the data to update.

Even when your Neighbour List is full there will always be more of those boxes to the left.

As you progress through the game you will find you need neighbours for your 3rd farm, working facilities, quests, trains, ships and other features.

You can visit Neighbours farms by using the neighbour bar at the bottom of your game screen.
Farmers that have you as their Neighbour also come and see your farm using their own Neighbour bar. Those that have you as their Buddy can use the Buddy list to visit you.

To visit a Neighbour click on their picture in that bar and you will see a menu like this:

When you scroll down the list and click on "Visit xxx Farm" you will be taken to their farm.

If you have not visited them that day you will see a message asking you to do a quick job to tend to their farm, it's just a couple of clicks. You will earn 30 xp's for each neighbor whose farm you tend (watering, raking, etc) within a 24-hour period up to a limit of 100 visits. After that you will earn 1 xp. You can only tend each neighbor once a day.

To Return back to your own farms, click on the Home icon bottom right of your game screen.

Send a Message opens a message box for you to be able to send that farmer a message. Neither of you need to be online for you to send it.

Send Gift opens the Gift Manager so that you can pick a gift to send to that Neighbour.

Sell Products allows you to sell products to a farmer which can be things like crops, trees, fish etc. You must both be online to be able to do this.

Show Trading Warehouse shows you the farmers Trading Warehouse, any offers of products that they are selling which you can buy and you can sell them what they need if you have it.

Join XXX sends a request to that farmer to meet up with them. You both need to be online and if they accept, you will be taken to where they are. You can not join them if they are on a Private farm as only farm owners can go to their Private Farms. If this happens you will be sent to a different farm that is not private.

Ask XXX to Join You sends a request to that farmer to ask them to come to where you are. You both need to be online and if they accept, they will come to where you are. They can not join you if you are on a Private farm as only you can go it. If this happens they will be sent to a different one of your farms that is not private.

Show Co-operative Quests shows you their co-operative Quests that are open. If there are none open you won't see any. You would see a yellow help note on a Quest and a Sell button if they need help. You will see a BUY button on any of their Quest steps if you can buy from them for one of your own Co-operative quest steps that doesn't have a green check mark yet.

Set as Super-Neighbour or Edit Super Neighbour allows you to set a Neighbour as a Super Neighbour and give or alter permissions for them to help you with your farms. The edit option allows you to edit those settings later or remove the Super Neighbour Permissions.

Remove as Neighbour Allows you to Remove them from your own Neighbour list. You will see a popup asking you to confirm. That popup has an extra option that you can add a check mark to also remove yourself from their Neighbour list.

Click the green check mark to proceed. Click the red X to cancel.

When you remove a Neighbour, it also removes any Super Neighbour permission you gave them. It does not remove them as a Buddy. You can do that from the Farmers Lists.

The "Order by xxx" section will let you change the order in which your neighbours are displayed in the Neighbours bar.

Use the arrows to the right of the bar to see more neighbours.

  • Order by Online: Will show you neighbours that are online in the game, listed from highest XP to lowest. Refresh Online Statuses shows when you have used the By Online option and clicking on Refresh Online Statuses will update the Neighbours bar as some farmers many have gone offline and some may have come online

  • Order by Level: Sorts the bar from highest level and XP amount to the lowest.

  • Order by Farm Pass: Sorts the bar by those who are participating in the Farm Pass feature and will show the farm pass points instead of XPs at the bottom of each neighbour.

  • Order by Best Diversification: Sorts by highest to lowest diversification numbers. This can be found in the Facility Manager and helps govern your buying limit. The more facilities you have at 100% production, the better the score.

  • Order by Help Given: Sorts the bar by highest to lowest help given points.
Points are earned for things like sending gifts/bonuses/ingredients, boosting trains. This tends to update once per day or every time your neighbour loads the game.
  • Order by Co-operative Quests: Neighbours doing co-operative quests are always to the right of your box. The rest are listed to your left in XP order high to low. The little number top left of each box and has a yellow background changes and tells you how many neighbours you have that currently have at least one co-operative quest open, this includes you if you are doing them. If not, the number you are looking for is the first neighbour to your right who has a blue dot.

  • Order by Trade Offers: Neighbours that have Trade offers will be shown to the right of you, listed in XP order.

  • Order by Super Neighbour: Your super neighbours have a red dot. If you are super neighbour for a neighbour, they will have a purple dot.

  • Order by Names: Names with a symbol first will show first, then names with numbers at the front of the name, then by A-Z.

    * This Asterisk at the front of any Order By List is there to indicate which order you are currently using.
When you change the order, the Asterisk changes to the front of the new list.

Tending your Neighbour Farms

One of the early things you will notice when you start playing Farm Town is that you will occasionally be asked to tend to a Neighbours farm to perhaps rake leaves, water, raking. You are likely to see this when you visit a Neighbours farm for the first time that day or if you are idle in the game you may see a message asking you to tend a Neighbours farm.

You are not actually going to do anything physical on their farm or even use the store to purchase the accessories that you need to use.

Tending Neighbours farms earns you some coins and experience points and also adds a little extra fuel as part of the help given factor when you need to refuel.
Example of one type of tending request:
When you accept the request there will be one of two scenarios. Either you have the necessary accessory (a hose for watering, gloves to remove weeds or a rake to collect leaves) and it simply goes through and completes the request or you do not have them so it offers the sale of the item, then when you purchase them it then proceed with the task.
You will then see a brief notification that disappears showing you what you earned.

When you purchase one of these accessories, it has 5 uses. This means after 5 times of using it you will have to purchase another via the same method.

You earn 300 coins and 30 experience points (commonly referred to as XP) for each tending you do for a neighbour (watering, weeding or raking) in 24 hours. The limit if 100 tends per day. If you exceed this, then your experience points earned will reduce from 30XP to 1XP per visit.

Sending one or more Farm links in a Message

Another way to help farmers meet other farmers that need Neighbours and Buddies is to send a farm link in a message.

Although you can always send your own farm link you can also send other farmers farm links who are your Neighbours or Buddies.

You can send one link or several links in a single message.

To send farm link(s) in a message:
  • Choose any of these methods that you wish to use to send the Message:

    1. When you can see the farmer you want to send the farm link to. Click on on their Avatar, then click on Send Message to xxx

    2. If it's a Neighbour, you could click on the Neighbour in your Neighbours bar that you want to send the farm link to, then click on Send Message to xxx

    3. You can also use the Message Icons in your Farmer Lists (My Neighbours, My Buddies, Facebook Friends). Click on the little Note pad next to the farmer you want to send a message to.

    4. You can also send one when you click on Reply after reading an in game Message.

    5. You can also use the Message Icon that shows at the bottom of co-operative quest windows, when scrolling through co-operative quests. This can be useful when someone needs help with a co-operative quest.

  • At the bottom right of the message box, you will see Insert Farm Link.

  • Click on Insert Farm Link if you wish to send a Farm Link to someone.

  • You will have 2 options to choose from:

  • Clicking on To Current Farm inserts the link for the farm you are currently on.

That could be someone else's farm if you are not on your own farms. It inserts the farm link for the farm that you are currently on.

If you want to send your own farm link, make sure that you are on one of your own farms before you click on Insert Farm Link.

If you are sending you farm link to meet up with farmers on a specific one of your farms, make sure that you are on the farm that you want to meet them on AND that your farm is not set to Private.

If you send a farm link while you are on one of your Private farms, what happens when the receiver clicks on the link in the received message is it will take them to one of your farms that is not Private!

  • Clicking on To Another Farmer opens a small window called Pick a Farmer

You can change this view to a another group of farmers by clicking on the funnel filter top right:

All Will show both your Neighbours and your Buddies
My Neighbours will show just your neighbours
My Buddies will show just your Buddies.

Use the scroll bar to the right of the box to scroll to find your Neighbour/Buddy.

IMPORTANT! - Avatar names are not exclusive, meaning you could have several farmers using the same avatar name as another farmer. You need to be sure that you have the right farmer before you proceed!!

To insert the link into your message, click on Pick next to the name of the farmer whose farm link you want to send and the link will show up in blue text underlined with that farmers name in it.

You can also add a message if you wish.
You can also add more than one farm link if you wish.

If you want to send more than one link, just click on Insert Farm Link again, find the next farmer and click on Pick again.

If you make any mistakes you can either delete the contents of the message and start over before you send it.

Or you can click the red X top right of the message box to cancel sending the message which will close it.
  • To send the Message click on Send bottom left of the message window.

  • When the farmer you send the message to reads the message it will look similar to this:

  • They can then click on that blue text to take them to that farmers farm.

Default How to Set your Status as Unavailable

How to Set your Status as Unavailable

If you are going to be away from the game for a day or up to 3 months you can help your farming friends know by setting your Unavailable Status so that your Background colour turns red in the Neighbours bar and in various sections of the Farmers Lists.

This red background will also show up in your farming friends ships logbooks if you are one of their ports and when sending farming friends gifts and train boosts.

To set your Unavailable status:

  1. Log into the website and load your game.

  2. Then click on your Avatar so that you see the Avatar menu.

  3. Scroll down and click on Set Unavailable Status.

  4. You will then see the Edit Your Availability window:

  5. Click on the drop down arrow and you will see all the options from 1 day to 3 months.
There is a scroll bar on the right you can use to see more than the first 6 days.
OR you can scroll the list if you have a wheel on your mouse.

  6. Then click on the option you want to use to select it.

  7. To confirm the setting, click on the green check mark.
To cancel the change click on the red X instead.

In this example the farmer clicked on 2 days and it show the date they are expecting to return to the game:

  8. You will then see your background colour change to red in the Neighbour bar.

After setting this your farming friends will be able to see it when they next reload the game.

Once the time has run out, you are automatically set back to Available and your background colour will change back to normal.

You can always repeat the process to change the original time set again, if you need to extend or decrease the time or change it back to Available as long as you can load the game.

To manually set your Unavailable status back to Available
OR check the date it's already set for:

  • Log into the website and load your game.

  • Then click on your Avatar so that you see the Avatar menu.

  • Scroll down and click on Set Unavailable.

  • You will then see the Edit your Availability window, if the time has not run out yet you will see the date it is currently set for, towards the bottom of the window.

  • If at this point the date is still correct you can just click on the red X to close the window and it will remain set as it was.

  • To change your status back to Available, click on the drop down arrow and then click on the I'm Available option at the top of the list:

  • To confirm the setting, click on the green check mark.
To cancel the change click on the red X instead.

  • When you change your status back to I'm Available, you will then see your background colour change back to normal in the Neighbour bar.

After setting this your farming friends will be able to see it when they next reload the game.

How to know when Farming Friends are Unavailable:
When a Neighbour or Super Neighbour is Unavailable you will see them with a red background in your Neighbours bar at the bottom of the game screen.
When you mouseover the farmers profile picture anywhere that you see the red background, you will see a tooltip showing how long they are expecting to be away for. When the time is under 1 day, the tooltip will show you hours instead of days.
Example of the mouseover in the Neighbour bar:

Example of the red background in Farmers Lists.
We are only showing one of each for Neighbours and Buddies, but this will also show in the Facebook Friends section (if they were a friend when we moved away form Facebook and you have not removed them from that list), Reverse Neighbours and Reverse Buddies as well:

Example of Unavailable in Ships Logbooks:
Mouseover a Port with a red background and you will see a tooltip with more information about how long they will be away for. For example it could show you This port is unavailable and will become operational in 4 days. They have not closed their Port, they might be expecting to be able to return to the game sooner than 4 days.

Remember that the pink background means that the farmer HAS disabled their port. They may not be participating with ships OR they may be away on a vacation for an extended time. Mouseover the Port and it will show you a tooltip saying This port is out of service. When the background colour is pink you may prefer to replace them with a port that is currently open.

If they do both things, set themselves as unavailable and disable their port the background in ships logbooks defaults to pink. They may not be away for long so if you own the Overhead Cranes you could self load their port if you wish or you can skip that port instead of replacing it. When this happens, you can still check how long they are away for in your Neighbours bar or in your Farmers Lists.

Example when sending a gift or train boost:

Where there is more than one farmer with the same name or similar name when using the search bar to choose how to send those to the other farmers that are available will not have a red background. Some profile pictures have been greyed out in the example below for privacy.
