There are issues hiring at marketplace. This has been sent to the developers. We have had this before and they adjusted the amount.
Meanwhile, try going to the Inn or the trading market from there and then back to the job market. If you see everyone still with the white name tag then do it again. If you see some with the red tag then you should be in and able to hire.
