And loading times have only DECREASED over the years since I've been playing.

I'm pretty sure it is more related to your internet...

Very frustrating when you harvest and should receive a crop belt but instead get a facility belt. I even tried stopping and reloading the game. Nope still get the darned facility belt.

Keep it the way it is. It makes it more "real". Sometimes supplies run low and you need to "manage" your production. Apply the raw materials to the right products to maximize profits. Or lay off...
